How to Look Up New Addresses After the 2025 Province Merger

How to find and convert old Vietnamese addresses to new administrative units after the 2025 reform. Guide to updating documents and using the lookup tool.

How Has Your Old Address Changed?

After the provincial merger on July 1, 2025, many Vietnamese citizens and overseas Vietnamese are wondering about their new administrative addresses. If your old address was in one of the 29 merged provinces, you need to know the corresponding new administrative unit to update documents, receive parcels, and contact government agencies.

VNDatabase provides a free address lookup tool that lets you enter your old address (province → district → commune/ward/township) and find the corresponding new administrative unit after the merger.

How to Use the Address Lookup Tool

Step 1: Select the old province/city from the dropdown list. The list includes all 63 provinces and cities before the 2025 reform.

Step 2: After selecting the province, the corresponding district list will appear automatically. Select the district from your old address.

Step 3: After selecting the district, the list of communes/wards/townships will appear. Select the corresponding unit.

Result: The tool will display the new commune/ward/township name and the new province after the merger, along with the effective date and related legal documents.

Common Cases That Require a Lookup

Updating land use right certificates (red book/pink book): When conducting real estate transactions or applying for reissuance, the address on the certificate needs to be updated to the new administrative unit.

Changing business registration address: Businesses headquartered in merged provinces need to register the address change on the National Business Registration Portal.

Receiving parcels and mail delivery: When placing online orders or receiving parcels from abroad, use the new province name to avoid confusion.

Genealogical and local history research: When searching for old records or identifying hometown on historical documents.

Are Old Addresses Still Valid?

According to guidelines from the Ministry of Home Affairs and relevant authorities:

Old documents (CCCD, passport, land certificates) retain full legal validity and do not need to be replaced immediately. When issued new or renewed, the address will be updated to the new administrative unit.

Postal addresses: Vietnam Post has updated its address database. Parcels sent to old addresses will still be delivered, but using the new province name is recommended to avoid delays.

Contracts and legal documents: Contracts signed with old addresses remain valid. When signing new contracts, use the name of the new administrative unit.

Contact the Relevant Authorities

If you need official confirmation of administrative address changes, contact:

• The commune/ward People's Committee where you reside • The Department of Home Affairs of the corresponding new province • The official website of the new province
